Oz Malul "Walk to Caesaria", 2007 motor, string, pulley, CD player, limit switch
Out of the new crop of MFA's graduating Columbia this year, Oz Malul's kinetic sculptures were all that really stood out for me.
Unfortunately, most of the work in the show felt like rehashed versions of works currently found in the Whitney Biennial or the New Museum’s previous show Unmonumental. Toss in a wise-ass faux espn/art publication, Storung, which covers attending art school as well as your relationship to the art market and you’ve completely turned me off…
Columbia's MFA Thesis Exhibition @ The Fisher Landau Center For Art runs through May 25th
